My desire to pursue a Masters Degree in Fashion was born of my love for this industry. Ever since I was a child, I have always been intrigued by fashion. Drawing and sketching has been a perennial hobby which I brought along with me as I grew up. I distinctly remember that I spent a lot of time sketching clothes more than anything else. I also grew up watching fashion shows on television where I studied the clothes worn by the models. I told myself that someday one of the clothes worn by those beautiful models will be of my creation.

Throughout college, I prepared myself for this dream continuing to design clothes on my sketchbook. I majored in communications and advertising in preparation for this dream. These two fields will be of benefit to me as I try to enter this field. I believe that fashion is all about communication. It is about informing clients what clothes to wear and what not to wear during a particular season. It is an understatement to say that effective communication is the key to being successful in this field. By having this foundation in communication, I am armed with the knowledge on how this information may be effectively passed on the clientele on various media.  As one who majored in advertising, I am also armed with the necessary background not only to give out information on what is fashionable but also to make these fashionable items interesting enough to invite sales which is one of the prime objectives.

I specialize in fashion design. It can be noted from my first statements that this is my passion. I love the idea of creating new styles in clothes. I like introducing novel ideas in the fashion industry. In my heart and mind, I want to be able to see beauty in all of the people I meet which I express through designing. Coupled with this passion, of course, is my goal of seeing my designs being worn by people. That is why I want to learn more about fashion merchandizing. I want to see my designs not only on paper but also on warm bodies. This is where my fulfillment lies.

My pursuit of this Masters degree is aimed at a few worthwhile objectives which I hopefully want to achieve in the near future. First, I intend to create my own clothing line which I would personally design. This clothing lines target market is young professionals starting from the middle class up to the upper class. This is my goal because I want to make fashion affordable not only to the upper class. I want to be able to make high-end clothes which can be worn by those in the middle class. I want my clothes to be worn by people from different socio-economic strata from the famous movie actress to the sports champion to the struggling news anchor and the newly-hired call center agent.

Furthermore, I intend to market the clothing line on a global scale utilizing all forms of media which would include the internet because as of now this is where this clothing line will be most accessible from people all over the world. This is also the most affordable means of advertising especially for beginners such as me. However, in the near future, hopefully, I also want my clothing line to be launched in a fashion show and in other print media such as fashion magazines and catalogues. The ultimate goal is to have my designs to be known and worn not only by people in the upper class but also those in the middle class.

I believe that my career in the fashion industry has started when I was a child when I started weaving dreams of creating clothes for those models. This Masters degree will be a sort of graduation for me providing me with the license to market all of my designs. For others, this degree is not a requirement but I take the opposite view. I am taking this course because I want to be able to do the best in this industry. I want to be able to back my passion with the proper education because I know that I owe this to my future clients. This is the key to giving them the best value for their patronage.
